Frequently Asked Questions

How can I acquire your software and services?

Courthouse Technologies provides 2 licensing options for obtaining our platform. The first is a purchase of a perpetual license to use CHT products and services. The second option is a site-wide, term subscription for all products and services. The physical implementation and project method are the same in both but differ in how you pay for it all.

Federal, State, and local government courts can subscribe utilizing our GSA Schedule 70 cooperative purchasing vehicle. Call us or see www.gsaadvantage.gov for details.

What is the Courthouse Refund Program?

It's really quite simple... If you subscribe to the Courthouse Technologies' jury platform or use our SummonsDirect service, you are eligible for our Refund Program. This is because both: a subscription to our jury platform and a subscription to SummonsDirect are based on the number of summonses or questionnaires your jury operation mails out in a calendar year. If you mail out less than the number you approximated when you signed up, you get the difference back. You only pay for what you mail!

Do I have to buy/subscribe to all of your products and services at the beginning?

No, you can buy/subscribe to any number of our products and services at the beginning and acquire additional CHT products and services at any time. The only mandatory requirement is in a subscription as it requires use of SummonsDirect. This is because subscription fees are based on the number of summonses/questionnaires your court mails out in a given year.

However, the more products and services you acquire at the beginning, the better discount you will receive.

How does SummonsDirect work?

SummonsDirect is our summons/questionnaire printing, mailing and address verification service.

When you use SummonsDirect your jury questionnaire and/or summons data is automatically run against the National Change of Address registry (NCOA) in real time at regular intervals (daily, weekly, or monthly depending on volume and desired run frequency).

SummonsDirect analyzes the NCOA return codes for juror eligibility and deliverability before questionnaire or summons documents are produced. This means that you only incur production costs for jurors who are eligible to serve and whose address is deliverable.

Your documents are also CASS certified for more accurate document delivery. (CASS is a system which improves the accuracy of carrier route, adds or updates five-digit zip codes and zip +4, and adds delivery point codes that appear on each document).

Once back from the NCOA, updated juror address and eligibility data are automatically delivered back to the JMS database. Your documents are guaranteed to hit the mail stream within 48 hours of your scheduled run.

What kind of licenses do you offer?

Courthouse Technologies provides 2 licensing options for obtaining our platform.

The first is a purchase of a perpetual license to use CHT products and services. Your court may also subscribe to the SummonsDirect service in connection with the purchase of this license. You will receive a site-wide license to use Courthouse Technologies' products and services, so you can have as many users as you would like.

The second option is a site-wide, term subscription for all products and services. The physical implementation and project method are the same as the purchase of a perpetual license, including installation, training, project management, annual support, and the SummonsDirect Service. However, under this plan, you do not own a perpetual license to use the software. Rather, it is a "pay as you go" service bundled with SummonsDirect and costs substantially less than purchase of a perpetual license. This is usually done on a term contract and includes the same discounts that apply to the perpetual license option. The benefit of a subscription is that you can acquire a state-of-the-art jury system without the large; upfront fees normally associated with a purchase. In other words, you are not having to "break the bank" to get what you want.

What if I need a system for multiple court locations?

Do we get custom reports when implementing your system?

Yes, Courthouse Technologies provides some customizing of Courthouse JMS's standard correspondence as well as the documentation that your clerks or bailiff's will use in the courtroom. This includes your summons or questionnaire.

Does Your Jury System support 1-Step AND 2-Step Processing?

Is your system capable of integration with other court applications?

External systems can integrate very easily with Courthouse JMS. This is because it is built largely on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). This means that we have deployed a system architecture that provides a loosely-integrated suite of services that can be used within other court applications (i.e. Case Management Systems, Financial Systems, etc...). The best example of this is integrations through Web Services.

If you would like to know more, we will undertake a meeting with your court staff to evaluate any required or desirable functional changes to JMS to make the integration possible. The deliverable from this meeting will be a definitive statement of work and price proposal for phase two which will be the development, testing and deployment of the integration.
